Dear Colleagues,
Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide; chest pain is one of the most common reasons that patients seek care in the Emergency Department. Clinicians have a multitude of options for how to diagnose acute coronary syndromes and triage patients based on the immediate, short-term, and long-term risk. This special issue will explore strategies for using cardiac biomarkers, cardiovascular imaging, and risk scoring systems to manage chest pain in the emergency department.
Potential titles:
• Contemporary Biomarker Strategies for Patients with Chest Pain
• Appropriateness of Cardiovascular Imaging in the Initial Assessment of Chest Pain in the ED
• Using Scoring Systems for Triage and Assessment of Short-term CV Risk
• Comparison of International Perspectives on Chest Pain Management
• Management of Patients with Chest Pain and Very Low Likelihood of CAD
• Impact of Chest Pain Accreditation on Processes and Outcomes
• Benefits and Drawbacks of using Gender-specific Cutpoints for Cardiac Troponin
• Operation of Standalone and Virtual Chest Pain Units within an Emergency Department
• Pre-hospital and Emergency Medical Service Programs for Improving Patient Outcomes
• Management of Chest Pain Syndromes Among Patients with Established CVD
