Overview
Whilst advances in reproductive medicine has created scope and diversity in treatment options, it has also increased patient expectation. Multidisciplinary team working is therefore essential for the delivery of integrated quality patient care. Fertility nurses and midwives provide a holistic approach to patient care, from investigation to first- and second-line treatments. Specialist roles encompass donor insemination, egg donation, surrogacy arrangements, in addition to management of early pregnancy, and recurrent implantation failure/miscarriage.

Increasing responsibility and the extended role of fertility nurses and midwives requires excellent communication skills with both patients and the wider multidisciplinary team (clinicians, scientists, administrative and counselling colleagues) in addition to specialist teams (oncology, gynaecology, endocrinology) as appropriate. Living with infertility has been likened to that of bereavement, therefore the psychological support of patients throughout their fertility journey is paramount.

This unique MedEA program is CME accredited and provide continuous professional development (CPD) credits which meet the requirement for assessment and competency in professional practice in accordance professional nursing standards. 

The scientific program will be chaired by experts in the field, linking specific knowledge and evidence-based research findings which informs clinical practice.
